Sucessful days at Fruit Logistica 2019!
From 5 to 8 February, the Europatat Secretariat was present at Fruit Logistica 2019 in Berlin, the world’s leading international trade fair for fresh fruit and vegetables including potatoes. Europatat used this occasion to meet with its members at the Seed Potatoes and Packers & Ware Commissions with the purpose to discuss current and important dossiers for the potato sector such as Plant Health, Brexit or food waste and sustainability related topics. Europatat at Potato Expo 2019
For the first time ever, Europatat attended the American Potato Expo, which took place in Austin, Texas on 9 and 10 January. Europatat took this opportunity to enlarge its professional network and to discuss with other associations and companies the latest trends and issues facing the potato sector in Europe and beyond. Pomuni, a Belgian family business in continuous development since 1928
On 17 January, the Europatat Secretariat visited the production and packaging facilities of Pomuni in Raanst, Belgium. With more than 90 years of history, Pomuni is one of the Europatat members from Belgium. Read more about the visit here
RUCIP working group January meeting
Following on the work started in 2017 and several meetings in 2018, a number of representatives of the RUCIP Working Group (including participants from Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and UK) met in January 2019 for two days in the Hague to continue the revision and modernisation of the RUCIP rules. Further meetings have already been scheduled for May, July and October this year.
Tackling food losses and waste
On 1 February, Europatat attended a meeting of the sub-group on food waste measurement of the EU Platform on Food Losses and Food Waste, of which Europatat is a member. The European Commission updated the participants on the Delegated Act on food waste measurement laying down the common measurement methodology that will be finalised for next month.
Stakeholder conference on price transparency
On 25 February Europatat participated in a stakeholder conference organised by DG AGRI on market transparency in the food supply chain. During the meeting, the European Commission presented the results of its economic analysis and options for improving market transparency with new price reporting obligations to agri-operators. The final report of this analysis will be published in the next weeks.
