Webinar now available online: ‘Field Identification of Common Foliar Diseases of Potatoes’

Potato growers know that there are many challenges to growing a good crop.  Foliar diseases may affect potatoes from emergence to top-killing. Knowing what you’re dealing with is the first step in successful disease management.

On March 29, Dr Jeff Miller from Miller Research in Idaho presented a webinar on “Field Identification of Common Foliar Diseases of Potatoes”. The webinar was organized in collaboration with the Ontario Potato Board, coordinated by Dr Eugenia Banks. It was hosted by Potatoes in Canada magazine. A recording of the webinar is not available on YouTube.

Dr Miller outlined the common foliar diseases of potatoes that occur from emergence to top killing including:

• Correct identification of potato diseases
• Early detection of diseases and where are most likely to occur
• How to distinguish the most common foliar diseases from their look-alike disorders.

This information should allow growers to better time pesticide applications and to apply pesticides only when necessary. This webinar is an excellent source of information for potato scouts, crop advisors, extension personnel, researchers and anyone interested in Integrated Pest Management of Potatoes.
