Zimbabwe: ‘Sack potato a flop’

Production of potatoes in sacks has proved to be a non-profitable venture with farmers registering zero to one kilogram per plant, an expert said last week. Planting potatoes in sacks was adopted from Israel and the United States. It was estimated that a farmer got the most out of a single plant and could harvest a maximum of 30kg of potatoes from a single plant. However, sack potatoes are reported to have a bad taste compared to traditional ones, with the size even abnormal since they are produced under unnatural conditions.
