Idaho spud sizes down, yields average

Idaho spud farmers say tuber sizes appear to be smaller and yields are average, at best, as they commence their 2014 harvest, but they’ve generally been pleased by crop quality. In Eastern Idaho’s Pleasant Valley area, Ritchey Toevs said ideal spring growing conditions led potato plants to set a large number of tubers. Though he said his spuds appear in good shape and should store well, he believes potatoes in his area didn’t add much bulk during a cool and cloudy August.
