It’s better late than never. A recent official move to popularise export-friendly potatoes in Bangladesh to meet needs of millions abroad is doubtlessly welcome. But what had prevented the authorities to go for such a well-thought-out decision just after the potato price-crash last year? The ministry of agriculture only last week decided to promote quality seeds of exportable potato as well as prepare soil of potato-growing fields. But to get this move executed, it will take at least one more year.
