A special event is being held later this month to try and find a way to ease the current crisis in the tattie sector. Everyone involved in the sector, from growers to merchants, is urged to attend the crisis meeting at Ingliston, Edinburgh, on Monday, March 16. Organised by the Potato Council and NFU Scotland, the meeting aims to bring together everyone involved in growing and selling potatoes so that an action plan can be made to help the struggling sector. The meeting comes at a time of falling consumption and a flood of produce on the market – reports have emerged of some growers receiving as little as £20-25 a tonne for last year’s crop. Full story
