Europe: 2014/15 campaign one of the worst of the past few years

On 26th February, Cepa presented data concerning the trend of potatoes in Italy and Europe. At a European level, there was a 3.5% increase in cultivated areas and an exceptional production (+16%, and average yields per hectare of over 50 tons) but consumption dropped, so prices did too. In 2014, Germany, the main European producer, grew to over 8.9 million tons (+30% compared 2013). In 2014, France produced over 6 million tons on more than 121,400 hectares. The UK harvested over 5.1 million ton on 105,000 hectares. Belgium increased its production by 25% on 81,400 hectares. in Italy, cultivated areas should be reduced by 12% in 2015. Report
