Dominican Republic: Govt imported three new potato varieties

The Ministry of Agriculture on its quest to ensure that agriculture remains an contributing sector of the economy has imported new varieties of Irish potatoes as a means of encouraging farmers to diversify. During a tasting exhibition of the new potato cultivars on Wednesday June 3rd, Taletha Laudat a representative of the Division of Agriculture revealed that two new crops have recently been introduced to Dominica. “This year we did research on three new cultivars: Cheftain, Challenger and Spunta. We’ve tried our best to introduce these potatoes to the consumers to determine whether they appreciate the new cultivars,” Laudat revealed. More
