Fall potato acres are up in the Northwest and nationwide, according to new numbers from the USDA and United Potato Growers of America. Potato growers planted 1.9 percent more acres this season nationwide, according to new numbers from USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS). USDA estimated in its June 30 report that U.S. potato farmers planted 955,300 fall acres this season, up from 936,900 acres in 2014. The NASS estimates are in line with numbers also released June 30 by United Potato Growers of Idaho, which sends staff throughout potato country to physically count spud acres. News story.
