McCain Foods announces $10 million upgrade potato processing in Tasmania

McCain Foods will spend $10 million expanding its potato processing plant in Smithton in Tasmania’s north-west. The company will upgrade its storage facility, which will hold up to 55,000 tonnes of potatoes for processing. McCain agriculture director John Jackson said the upgrade would improve efficiency. “It’s an opportunity to bring our storage in one place and gain some efficiencies in our operations by having all our potato storage at the plant, or pretty much 95 per cent of it,” he said. It will also build a new $1.6 million packing line.
