US: WSU warns potato farmers about growing pest problem

Potato psyllid and Zebra chip diseaseGrant County potato farmers are being advised that the psyllid population in the area is increasing. Psyllids are insects which feed on potato leaves and are being seen in rapidly growing numbers across the Pacific Northwest, according to Washington State University professor and Regional Vegetable Specialist Carrie Wohleb. Last week, university researchers found the pests on 79 percent of field samples throughout the Lower Columbia Basin, up from 60 percent the week before and 50 percent the week before that.
