National Potato Council shows support for methyl bromide

Last Wednesday, NPC and 67 other national, regional and state organizations sent a letter to Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) in support of legislation he is sponsoring, H.R. 3710, the Safe Agricultural Production Act of 2015. Methyl bromide is being phased out under the Montreal Protocol. The legislation would expand options for the “emergency use” of methyl bromide. It is vital for growers to have access to methyl bromide for emergency treatments when facing major crop losses due to pests that can’t be controlled by any other means. Over the last 10 years, growers and government researchers conducted extensive research supporting the use of methyl bromide in situations where no alternatives are available. Source: Potato Bytes
