Gerrit Visser and Sons of Orwell Cove on Prince Edward Island captured the grand champion title in the table stock potato division at this year’s Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto. They took first prize in the class for Yukon Gold, Fabula, or Other Yellow Fleshed varieties and also took the top honours in the show. The win also netted the Visser family the Ontario Potato Board award for the champion table stock and this win continues a long tradition of Prince Edward Island spuds placing at the top at The Royal. The Vissers also had one other entry at the fair – they exhibited in the class for Gemstar, Goldrush, or Other Russet Skinned varieties and placed second. Source: The Guardian
