India: Company to promote dehydration of potato

The Central Potato Research Station (CPRS), Jalandhar, and Central Potato Research Institute (CPRI), Shimla, has signed a MoU with a Hyderabad-based company ‘Sunripe’ for commercial promotion of a technology called ‘dehydration of potato’. Invented by Dr Ashiv Mehta, Principal Scientist, CPRS, the technology has already been registered for patent with Indian Patent Office (IPO).Dr Ashiv said, “It is potato processing technology that will help in augmenting the proper utilisation of potatoes, solving the problem of potato storage and help the farmers by avoiding market glut and reduce the post-harvest losses (PHLs) in potatoes, which are at present very high (about 16 per cent) in India. For this reason, it is likely to get support from the Government of India as the government is keen to reduce PHLs in this crop.” More
