UK: Hundreds attend Nottingham Potato Day

Graeme Green, of Forest Fields admires this unusual Highland Burgundy Red potato. You can boil, mash and fry them but scores of people found new ways to prepare the humble spud at Nottingham Potato Day.  There were more than 40 varieties of seed potato to buy ranging from the well-known Maris Piper and Desiree to the rare Highland Burgundy Red. The event was organised and run by run by volunteers from Nottingham Organic Gardeners. Advice was on hand from expert growers and by the time the doors closed at 2pm more than 300 people had attended. Publicity manager Karen Fry said: “We have now been running this event for nine years and it gets better every time. “It is amazingly popular and there are always queues at the door when we open which is a great feeling.
