You can boil, mash and fry them but scores of people found new ways to prepare the humble spud at Nottingham Potato Day. There were more than 40 varieties of seed potato to buy ranging from the well-known Maris Piper and Desiree to the rare Highland Burgundy Red. The event was organised and run by run by volunteers from Nottingham Organic Gardeners. Advice was on hand from expert growers and by the time the doors closed at 2pm more than 300 people had attended.
