NASA scientists replicate Mars conditions; test 65 varieties of potatoes in Peru

Scientists have simulated the conditions present on the Red Planet for the experiments related to a manned-Mars mission in future. They are testing 65 potato varieties in Peru. It may help in future deep-space missions as NASA has been looking forward to transport humans to Mars in the near future and the space agency already has teams working on different concepts related to Mars mission. The US space agency has been working with International Potato Center in Peru to copy the conditions present on Mars for the growth of potatoes. According to scientists, the soil on the Red Planet possesses the nutrients plants need for survival on Martian conditions. Through experiments, the researchers have been attempting to know which kind of potatoes will be best suitable for cultivation in outer space environment.
