US: Washington potato farmers are helping cancer research, educating legislators

Ag boothPotato farmers in Washington State are working hard to plant their crops, and they’ve been hard at work helping cancer research and educating legislators and students. Potato farmers donated $3,740 to the Ovarian Cancer Foundation, according to Ryan Holterhoff, director of Marketing and Industry Affairs for the Washington State Potato Commission. The proceeds, of a luncheon to celebrate women farmers at the Washington and Oregon Potato Conference, were donated to the fund at the request of family behind the Stahl Hutterian Colony of Stanfield, Ore. In Olympia, potato farmers took part in All Ag Day to provide education and awareness of agriculture to state legislators.
