Australia: Farmer suppliers to potato industry giant Oakville may go unpaid

A tray of potatoes in a production line.Potato growers have reportedly gone unpaid since Australia’s largest potato supplier went into receivership. The majority Chinese-owned company Oakville Produce went into receivership in early May. Oakville, which was formerly known as the Moraitis Group, is now under the control of administrators at McGrathNicol and receivers at Deloitte Australia. An email circulated to employees on May 18 stated that receivers were continuing to trade on a “business as usual basis”. But the general manager of independent Victorian seed potato certifier ViCSPA, Nigel Crump, said growers had been affected by the current status of the company.
