Sweet potatoes are in big demand in the UK and interest has been growing for a while. According to one trader there has been a 50% increase in demand year on year from the last five years. Sweet potatoes are mainly imported from the States, but production there is struggling to keep up with demand, both from the domestic market and export. Spain has shown a good increase in production, comparability the the biggest increase of all the producers while Portugal is just starting to get into the game. Egypt is starting to supply some good varieties for export rather than the traditional ones favoured domestically.
