Bangladesh: Potato cultivation expanding on high market demand in Rangpur

Cultivation of early varieties of potato is going on in full swing across the district during the current season. The farmers are now busy in sowing the seeds of the vegetable as they have recently completed the short duration Aman paddy. Sources said many cultivators have been making a handsome profit farming of early potato varieties for the last several years. This year they are optimistic of earning more profit. Newly-harvested potato has a high demand in the market. Hashem Ali, a farmer of Mogolkot village at Balua Masimpur union under Mithapukur Upazila said he has been cultivating early varieties of potato for the last several years.
