Recovery for Swedish table potatoes

The Swedish potato production is estimated at 553 000 tonnes this year. This is 5 percent higher than the 2015 harvest and at the same level as the five-year average. This means a recovery compared with last year’s record low total yield. The main reason for the increased total yield is an increased table potato area. The preliminary area amounted to 17 300 hectares this year. This is an increase of about 600 hectares or nearly 4 percent compared with last year’s area, which was at its lowest level. The yield per hectare for starch potatoes is estimated at 45 000 kilos per hectare, which is 2 100 kilos, or nearly 5 percent more than last year’s high yields per hectare and nearly 7 percent higher than the five-year average.
