Aviko to close potato specialties plant in Germany

Potato processor Aviko, a Royal Cosun company, has decided to terminate operations at its factory in Oberdolling  in Germany. The Amberger factory will be closed before the end of the year. Aviko acquired a 60 percent stake in the Amberger factory in 2014 from the former owners, the Amberger family. Aviko acquired full ownership in 2017.

The facility produces local potato specialities such as Knödel, Garkartoffeln and Kartoffelsalat that are sold mainly on the home market in Bavaria. A raft of initiatives has failed to improve the factory’s results. The operations are running at a loss and there is little prospect of any improvement.

Some 150 members of staff will lose their jobs at Amberger. Some of them will be offered alternative employment at the Aviko factory in Rain am Lech in Bavaria.
