The Nizhny Novgorod Region in Russia is a region with a long history of cultivating potatoes and vegetables. The region is fully self supporting with potatoes, and this is largely due to several high-end farming enterprises that operate in the area. Latkin LLC (1800 ha under potatoes in 2020) is the largest producer of potatoes in the Nizhny Novgorod region. The farm is located in the village of Kozhino, Arzamas district. For more than 28 years, the company has been led by Evgeny Evgenievich Latkin.
GRIMME equipment are used for the cultivation and storage of potatoes by Latkin LLC. Harvesting is done with 4- and 8-row harvesters – some trailed and and others self-propelled. The first Russian GRIMME RH PowerCombi machine equipped with a Tomra’s FRA (Field Potato Sorter) optical high-performance sorting machine are used for the storage of potatoes on the farm.
Harvested potatoes are stored in modern potato storage facilities (total storage volume – 40 thousand tons, equipped with automatically operated ventilation systems).
In addition to cultivating potatoes, Latkin LLC also processes it. In 2008, a mini-plant for cleaning vegetables and then vacuum packaging it was built on the farm. In 2014 a modern equipment line was installed for washing, polishing and packaging of potatoes in small packages up to 3 kg).
An important sector of the Latkin LLC operation is seed production. Since April 2012, the company has started to cultivate minitubers in a controlled environment. A custom-developed computer program helps to maintain optimal growing conditions for the potato plants. Six production cycles per year are in place.
