Free potato seed distributed to boost Philippines’ potato production

In an effort to increase potato production in the Philippines, the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 2 (DA-RFO 2) has distributed free potato seed tubers to farmers in Nueva Vizcaya.

As Dexter A. See reports for The Manilla Times, this initiative aims to provide farmers with quality seed materials and encourage them to plant potatoes. The distribution was made possible through a partnership between DA-RFO 2, the local government unit, and the Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI).

The seed tubers were imported from Canada and have been certified disease-free. This initiative is expected to improve the livelihoods of local farmers and enhance the region’s potato industry.

DA-CAR Regional Executive Director Cameron Odsey acknowledged the continuous effort being done to assist farmers. He also mentioned the challenges faced by the farmers in accessing quality planting materials for potatoes.
