Canada: Potato board teaches growers how to disinfect trucks

By March 31, disinfection of potato trucks will be the responsibility of growers on P.E.I.The Prince Edward Island Potato Board in Canada has begun a series of information sessions to instruct growers on how to disinfect their trucks. Regulations require that all trucks transporting bulk seed potatoes must be cleaned and disinfected before being loaded to prevent the spread of bacterial ring rot. The province used to provide the service, but announced in November it was passing responsibility back to the industry. Monday in Souris, local growers were given a how-to session, to get them ready for the March 31 deadline. The growers haven’t been happy with the move, but realize they have to learn what’s required.
