Detroit potato chip company gets some love from Oprah

Media mogul and former daytime talk show star Oprah Winfrey gave a small Detroit potato chip company a huge marketing boost leading up to this holiday season. Winfrey listed Detroit Friends Potato Chips among more than 100 products she vouches for on her annual “Oprah’s Favorite Things” list, a popular guide for holiday shoppers. Detroit Friends Potato Chips, created by Michael Wimberly, is a grassroots company that sources some of its potatoes from urban farms in Detroit’s Hope District, an impoverished section of the city undergoing revitalization efforts.
