Canadian Potato Truck Pull event seeks to top $106,000 for cancer care

PotatoIn 2015, Canadian couple Jamie and Amy Smart decided to throw together a fundraiser for the Cancer Care Manitoba Foundation to help others in the midst of their battle with the disease. The Smart’s son Dawson, now a healthy eight-year-old, has fought and defeated kidney cancer. When he was one, Dawson was diagnosed with a Wilm’s Tumor, which forced him to undergo multiple surgeries. In 2016, Dawson was deemed cancer free after five years of follow-up care. Amy and Jamie developed the Carberry Potato Truck Pull to give back to the organization that helped them during Dawson’s fight against cancer. They quadrupled their fundraising goal at the inaugural event. “It’s gone on to become quite a large event attracting 1100 to 1200 people, from participants and volunteers to spectators. It’s been a fantastic community event for us here because people from every age group enjoy it.” This year’s event is expected to raise more than $100,000. More
