Simplot’s Canadian potato expansion progressing nicely

The new addition to Simplot’s potato production facility is coming together just outside of Portage in Canada’s Manitoba province. The facility will be more than doubling in size with the addition. Senior Communications Manager Josh Jordan says once the frame of the addition is completed, work will proceed quickly.

“The skeleton that they are getting into place is going to enable us to make a lot of quick movement hopefully before the snow flies, once it’s in place,” says Jordan. “We’re hoping that by the fall of 2019 we’ll be able to have the new capacity brought into the existing capacity.”

Jordan adds they’re excited for the progress being made on the facility and that they are maintaining full operation while building the addition. He notes this has caused some interesting and sometimes difficult challenges.

Simplot is currently using 180,000 square feet in their operational facility and that will be increased to 460,000 once the new addition is included.
