UK potatoes delisted from Poland’s largest supermarket chain

British potatoes have been delisted from a number of lines in Biedronka, Poland’s largest supermarket, due to fears of a no-deal Brexit. A large UK potato exporter has had to cancel orders with its growers as a result.

Overnight, the British exporter lost a market to which it sent a large number of potatoes every month.

“We received an e-mail with information that from October 15 this year Biedronka will no longer buy potatoes from Great Britain,” said the supplier in an interview.

As a result, his company, which acquires potatoes from around 100 farms, had to cancel orders from British farmers. “This is the first, real, financial blow we received because of Brexit.”
