In this market update video from Mintec, pricing analyst for Potatoes, Harry Campbell talks through the high prices in the market, delayed harvest and gives a general update on what market players’ thoughts on the potato industry are.
Mr. Campbell says a great number of buyers are currently chasing the new crop. Prices are souring at record levels, with the highest prices ever recorded on the Mintec Analytics platform. Increased demand due to the recent cold weather in the UK plays a big role in this, and supply can’t keep up with the high demand.
He also points out the supply pinch is a result of the delayed crop, with little to no old supply stocks left.
As buyers continue to compete for the limited supply, it is uncertain how long these high prices will last. Market players in the potato industry are closely monitoring the situation and trying to forecast future trends.
