“Potato—more than a bit on the side,” is the slogan heading up a new, million-euro marketing campaign launched by Ireland’s agriculture industry, aiming to boost potato consumption in the country. The three-year project was launched on Thursday and will be run by Ireland’s food board, Board Bia. It’s co-funded by the EU, along with Ireland’s potato industry and the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and will be run in conjunction with the British Potato Council. One million euros ($1.1 million) may seem like a hefty sum to spend on getting the Irish—famed for their love of potatoes—to eat more spuds, but a 25 percent decline in fresh potato sales in Ireland over the last decade has prompted the initiative. Between 2002 and 2014 sales fell by as much as a third. Source: Newsweek
