WPC24 welcomes climate advocate Dr. Anika Molesworth as Ambassador and radio icon Leith Forrest as MC

The World Potato Congress (WPC) has announced two distinguished appointments for its 2024 event, setting the stage for a landmark gathering in the potato industry. Dr. Anika Molesworth has been named as the WPC24 Ambassador, while Leith Forrest will serve as the Congress MC.

Dr. Anika Molesworth, a thought leader in agro-ecological systems resilience, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her new role. With a PhD in international agriculture and environmental management, Dr. Molesworth has become a prominent spokesperson on rural climate solutions, particularly highlighting the critical role farmers play in mitigating climate change. Her dedication to agriculture and climate advocacy has earned her numerous awards and accolades.

A passion for sustainable agriculture

Dr. Nigel Crump, Interim Chair of Potatoes Australia, expressed his enthusiasm for Dr. Molesworth’s appointment. “We are delighted to welcome Dr. Anika Molesworth as a Congress Ambassador for the World Potato Congress. Her expertise and passion for sustainable agriculture align perfectly with our goals. Potatoes play a vital role in sustainable food production, and we believe Anika’s leadership will greatly contribute to advancing the conversation on rural climate solutions.”

As part of her role, Dr. Molesworth will deliver a keynote presentation at the Congress, addressing the importance of potatoes in sustainable agriculture and their role in mitigating climate change. Her insights are expected to provide valuable guidance and inspiration to the global potato community.

Joining her on stage will be Leith Forrest, a celebrated radio announcer from Adelaide. Known as the top-rated nighttime announcer at FIVEaa radio, Forrest brings a unique blend of entertainment and engagement to the event.

Commitment to community service

Leith’s longstanding association with the Little Heroes Foundation, the charity partner of the World Potato Congress 2024, underscores his commitment to community service.

Forrest has worked alongside Chris McDermott and the Little Heroes Foundation for two decades, hosting numerous events annually.

Very proudly from the South East – Millicent – Leith has been a “meat and potatoes kid” his entire life. His deep-rooted connection to the region and his lifelong appreciation for the potato industry make him a fitting choice for Congress MC.

“We are delighted to have Leith join us,” the WPC team noted. “His connection to Little Heroes Foundation makes the partnership even more significant.”

The World Potato Congress 2024 promises to be a remarkable event, with a fantastic program currently being finalized. The Congress will take place from June 23 to 26 in Adelaide, offering attendees a platform to explore the latest innovations, research, and trends in the potato industry.
