Ukraine: Businesses plan to build a system of private potato and vegetable storage facilities

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy announced today that Ukraine plans to build a private network of vegetable storage facilities in 2025 with the help of private businesses.

According to a news story by Ukraine Business News (UBN), large companies produce only 450,000 tons of potatoes, with the rest of the crop grown by households with 10-20 hectares.

The ministry says it is confident that it will be profitable for small farmers to sell their potatoes to traders or large producers with storage facilities. In addition, large vegetable storage facilities will stimulate processing because agribusinesses can accurately predict the arrival of raw materials and optimize production at their factories. If there are several vegetable storage facilities in each region of Ukraine, this will simplify retail work, which is currently forced to import potatoes.

The Green Wave company, which grows lettuce, basil, and microgreens, said a large farm for cucumbers, tomatoes, and hot peppers will soon be launched in the Lviv region. Vertical farming in a closed soil system is a method of growing plants in specially maintained conditions that allow more products to be grown in a smaller area.
