Sustainable packaging: New potato bags compostable at home

February is Potato Lover’s Month, and New England based Arrowfarms announced recently that its Morning Kiss Organic and Gold Bell companies are introducing new, compostable paper bag potato packaging.

Arrowfarms says the new potato packaging bags are made of two-ply paper with compostable glue used around the window of the bag. Made from sugar cane, the mesh window itself is also compostable.

Morning Kiss Organic will offer organic gold, russet and red potatoes in the new packaging. Gold Bell will offer conventional gold and russet potatoes under the Morning Gold brand name.

“Our new bags, which are fully compostable at home, fulfill a strong consumer demand for sustainable packaging,” says Michael Guptill of Morning Kiss Organic. “We hope retailers will join us in this effort to increase sustainable packaging offerings in stores, and we hope this gives consumers extra incentive to add potatoes to their shopping carts.”

Employing just-in-time inventory management, Arrowfarms produce is packed to order and delivered daily.
