‘Healthy, natural, and fast’: Parmentine unveils fresh, pre-cooked potato range

Parmentine aims to ensure that the French can continue enjoying 100% natural potatoes while reducing the challenges associated with their preparation, Laury Foiselle, marketing director at Parmentine explained to FreshPlaza’s Aurélie Pintat in this news story.

To achieve this, the company has launched a new range of fresh, pre-cooked potatoes, presented in convenient “Easy & Good” trays. This innovative product, unveiled at SIAL, will be available on supermarket shelves from March/April 2025.

Innovation Beyond Tradition

“This is the first time we have ventured beyond our core activity of offering fresh, raw potatoes in nets,” says Laury Foiselle, Marketing Director at Parmentine. “We wanted to innovate within the fruit and vegetable department by providing consumers with a more convenient solution.”

Foiselle emphasizes that modern consumers often perceive fresh, raw potatoes as time-consuming and difficult to prepare. “Today, people have less and less time to cook and are looking for products that are quicker and easier to prepare.”

A Variety of Time-Saving Options

The result is a line of six different trays containing fresh, pre-cooked, and pre-cut potatoes. “It’s the same high-quality product from the same network of producers. The idea is to save consumers time by pre-steaming the potatoes,” Foiselle explains.

The six varieties include:

  • Chips – 3 minutes cooking time
  • Salad and Hashbrown Potatoes – 6 minutes cooking time
  • Gratin and Hashbrown Potatoes – 6 minutes cooking time
  • Baked and Mashed Potatoes – Presented in large cubes that only need mashing after 5 minutes cooking time
  • Roasted Potatoes – 2 minutes cooking time
  • Potatoes – 6 minutes cooking time

“For each product, we have carefully selected varieties to retain the authentic taste of potatoes,” Foiselle adds.

Minimal Processing, Maximum Freshness

The new product line has undergone minimal processing. “These are essentially raw potatoes that are pre-cooked and peeled, with the exception of Roasted Potatoes and Potatoes. Our goal was to maintain the natural quality of potatoes while drastically reducing cooking time,” says Foiselle.

Importantly, the products contain no additives or preservatives, aligning with the company’s mission to promote healthy eating. Each tray has a best-before date of 20 days from the factory gate.

Early Success and Market Potential

Although not yet officially launched, the product has already garnered significant interest from buyers. “The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive,” Foiselle reports. “Our clients appreciate this innovation, especially given the lack of novelty in the fruit and vegetable department. They recognize that while potatoes are a staple product, they often face obstacles in the market. Parmentine’s ambition to address these issues has been warmly received.”

Looking ahead, Parmentine is optimistic about the potential success of “Easy & Good” trays. “This project could eventually enable us to equip all our facilities with packaging lines, driving further growth and innovation,” Foiselle concludes.
