Ireland: Bord Bia launches campaign to get more young people eating potatoes

Life without them drove us into a famine but Irish millennials are now shunning the potato. That is according to Bord Bia, who are trying to get more young people to add spuds to their shopping list.

Recent research shows that they are still the most consumed carbohydrate in the country, with 97 per cent of households purchasing them every week.

Four out of five quizzed had eaten them in their last meal, with the majority boiling or mashing them.

But for the generation between 23 and 37, Bord Bia said their research shows that lack of knowledge of their nutritional and environmental benefits and the idea they don’t look good on Instagram are key reasons they are putting down the fork.

They also point out how quick they are to make, from baby potatoes for just 15 minutes in a pot, to an extra ten minutes more for bigger portions.
